Raw Material Control in an Aluminum Foundry and RoHS 2.0 Compliance

Jun -16 -2026
At Innovaw Aluminum Foundry, the procurement of raw materials is strictly carried out in accordance with the requirements of the IATF 16949 quality management system and fully complies with the environmental standards of the RoHS 2.0 directive. As a widely adopted quality system in the automotive industry, IATF 16949 emphasizes ensuring product quality from the source of the supply chain. Therefore, our factory has established a comprehensive supplier management and inspection mechanism for the procurement of aluminum ingots and other raw materials.

First, in the supplier selection stage, the factory only cooperates with qualified suppliers who have passed strict assessments. All suppliers are required to provide material composition reports (such as Certificates of Analysis, COA), RoHS compliance declarations, and third-party test reports. In addition, we conduct regular supplier audits, including on-site audits and performance evaluations, to ensure their production processes consistently meet environmental and quality requirements.

Secondly, in the incoming material inspection process, our factory conducts rigorous testing on each batch of aluminum ingots based on control plans and inspection standards. The inspection items include chemical composition analysis, impurity content testing, and hazardous substance screening. For the ten restricted substances under RoHS 2.0 (such as lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and the four newly added phthalates), we use X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers for rapid screening and periodically send samples to third-party laboratories for precise testing to ensure compliance with the specified limits.

Furthermore, the factory has established a comprehensive traceability system. Each batch of raw materials is assigned a unique identification, and full records are maintained throughout procurement, storage, and production usage. In the event of any abnormalities, traceability can be quickly achieved to the specific batch and supplier, enabling timely corrective actions and preventing non-conforming materials from entering the production process.

RoHS 2.0 (Directive 2011/65/EU and its amendments) aims to restrict the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products to reduce risks to the environment and human health. As regulatory requirements continue to evolve, compliance expectations for enterprises are becoming increasingly stringent. Therefore, Innovaw Aluminum Foundry not only meets current regulatory requirements but also continuously monitors updates to regulations and improves internal control processes.

By integrating the IATF 16949 system with RoHS 2.0 standards, our factory ensures product quality while promoting green manufacturing practices, delivering safe, environmentally friendly, and reliable aluminum casting products to our customers.
