There are defects in the die casting. How to ask questions to make communication more efficient?

Nov -07 -2024

1. Clearly describe the defect type

First, clearly state the specific defects observed on the die casting, such as holes, cracks, cold shuts, surface unevenness, shrinkage, oxidation marks, etc. If possible, providing the technical terminology of the defect will make the communication more precise.

2. Provide defect location and distribution

Indicate where the defects appear in the die casting (such as the edge, center, thick-thin transition zone, etc.) and whether they are localized or widely distributed.

3. Size and quantity

Describe the size of the defect (diameter, length, depth, etc.) and the approximate number or proportion in the entire batch of products.

4. Pictures or video materials

If conditions permit, it is recommended that the overall picture or video with the pouring row and the defect area is the most intuitive way. Ensure that there is sufficient light to clearly show the casting structure and defect details. It can be photographed from different angles and different magnifications for analysis.

5. Production process information

Alloy materials and composition used.

Die casting machine model, tonnage and setting parameters (such as pouring temperature, mold temperature, injection speed, holding time, etc.).

Mold design features, including exhaust system, cooling channel layout, etc.

Post-processing processes, such as heat treatment, machining steps, etc.

6. Time of problem occurrence

Describe the stage of the production process when the defect was first discovered, and whether it is a new or long-standing problem.

7. Solutions attempted

Summarize what methods you have tried to solve or mitigate the problem, and the results of these attempts.

8. Expected solution or analysis direction

Briefly describe what kind of help you hope to get from the analysis, such as finding the root cause, optimizing process parameters, improving mold design, or other suggestions.

Summary: By asking questions in the above structured way, other professionals can greatly improve their understanding of the problem, thereby providing you with more accurate and effective analysis and suggestions.
